Recent Interviews and Book about Argerich

February 24, 2010

Here are some news about recent interviews with Argerich and a book about her.

Exclusive interview with Argerich online on Italian piano forum. On a forum! I couldn’t imagine this. It’s actually online interview, like talking in a public chat room. Unfortunately I can’t read Italian.

Podcast interview with Argerich by Olivier Bellamy for Radio Classique. The interview was taken at Argerich’s home in Brussels.

(David said) Argerich talks about her childhood, her special relationship with her mother and father, how she tackled her illness back 12 years ago, her project of creating a music club for retired musicians, her passion for flamenco, and other topics as well, intercut with many anecdotes and excerpts of some of Martha’s most famous recordings (Rach 3 #3, Ravel #2, Schumann’s Aufscwung from the Fantasiest?cke, Liszt Sonata, Bach’s Taccata in C minor,…). Overall, very, very interesting interview once again. Even after one hour and a half, I had the impression that it was too short.

To listen this podcast, you will need to register first. Too bad that I can’t understand French. 😦

Olivier Bellamy has just finished a book about Argerich, which is available in Amazon.fr or Fnac. I wonder why Mr. Bellamy chose this photo as the book cover, instead of her other beautiful photos. To show some part of her personalities?

Mr. Bellamy also writes an interview for Classica Magazine in the March issue (3 pages). And the CD “Argerich plays Chopin” (DG 4477557) obtains a “Choc Classica”, which is reviewed by Hereunder.
