November 6, 2009
tags: ,

Top:

  • The Art of Fritz Wunderlich [Box Set]; $28.97 (a bargain from Amazon)

Bottom:

  • Offenbach – La Belle Hélène / Harnoncourt, Kasarova, Zurich Opera (1997) $18.36 (from DeepDiscount) (the reviews of earlier release are better than those in the 2009’s release)
  • Mozart – Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) / Keenlyside, Roschmann, Hartmann, Damrau, Selig, Allen, Sir Colin Davis, Covent Garden; $26.99 (from Amazon)
  • Martha Argerich: Live at Verbier Festival – Bach / Mozart / Grieg / Bartok / Lutoslawski / Shostakovich; $24.99 (from Amazon)

Inside the package:

Inside the Wunderlich box set of 7 CDs. Very economic packaging. The booklet includes several photos of Wunderlish, from 5 years old up. The CD 5 is already in my collection.

The Die Zauberflöte package includes a 47-page booklets,

which is thicker than the one in Argerich’s (while nothing but the product catalogs in La Belle Hélène)

The video from these DVD are not very good, all interlaced. 😦 I wonder whether the video quality in the Blu-ray of Mozart is better or not. 😕

These are earlier Christmas gifts for myself. 🙂 Happy, happy. (I still have five books on the way)

Good gets! I don’t have the Wunderlich, but love the other three to death. It’s weird how the earlier VHS release of La Belle Helene was from a different performance than the one on DVD (same cast, set, production, year and all). I think the DVD is ultimately the better performance, though. Van Der Walt was in a rather shaky form in the VHS version and Kasarova is just slightly less sultry in the DVD one (and fewer close up shots that make her look like a drag queen, too). :oP

And the Zauberfloete DVD from the ROH is just to die for. Can’t really get any better with Damrau’s Queen and Roeschmann’s Pamina, I think. You sure are already having a happy Christmas! :o)
