Google Settlement with Publishers

November 11, 2008

To settle a lawsuit against Google book-scanning project, Google reached an agreement with the publishing industry so that both parties can get profit from this book-scanning project. BookFinder’s blog has outlines some highlights of this case.

I have used this Book Search several times. It is really helpful, especially for hard-to-find books. I would be able to get enough information just from viewing parts of the scan of the book.

If the book is already out-of-print, it may not be easy to get from the used-book market. Even though we can suggest to the library which books to buy, the library wouldn’t get hold of them if they’re out-of-print (somehow they cannot try to get used books😕 ). Then allowing the user to buy a digital copy is quite convenient as well.
