Vertov – Media Annotating Plugin

September 30, 2008

Here is a mdeia annotating plugin to extend Zotero’s capabilities. With Vertov and Zotero, you can cut video and audio files into clips, add annotations, and integrate them with other features offered by Zotero.

What you need are: Firefox, Zotero, QuickTime player (plus Java Runtime Enviornment for Windows users) and Vertov. They’re planning to support Linux in the feature (using VLC instead of QuickTime player?).

Check out Vertov’s site for more details and its screencast.

PS: I have QuickTime Alternative instead. In my test, it cannot work with Vertov. Pitty. ๐Ÿ˜ I wish the solution to Linux can get rid of QuickTime player. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hello wildeny,

You’re correct that the up and coming Linux support will use VLC. I hope to have a release shortly (although I’ve been saying that for a while). Vertov will likely be available supporting either Quicktime or VLC.

I’m not familiar with QuickTime Alternative, but after skimming their front page, I wonder if it might work to download the (the glue that lets our applet talk to Quicktime) file that corresponds to your QuickTime Alternative installation. There’s no guarantee that the clipping of videos would be supported in that case, but it makes me wonder.

    Thanks for the post!

    Hello Stuart,

I will check later to see if it works. I think Vertov is quite helpful for people who often categorize media files. ๐Ÿ™‚
