Open House at Met

September 25, 2007

Well, I didn’t pay attention to what date today is. When I read Opera Chic’s entry, it’s already 10 pm EST at New York and the live broadcast of “Lucia di Lammermoor” stated at 6:30 pm EST. I only caught the last part of Act III. 😦

What interesting is that I listened to “Lucia di Lammermoor” last night, the recording of Maria Callas in 1960 (I know, people think the 1953’s recording is better, but this one sounds more pleasant in my ear).

Met Opera broadcasted live this gala performance to Time Square and to Lincoln Center’s Josie Robertson Plaza. Tickets of 1,500 seats were gone well before the opening night started. For people outside NYC, they can listen to it live at Met Opera site but it’s only available during the performance 😦 .

Open Hose Close-Up (photos; I finally know what a glass harmonica looks like; see here too)

Interview of Mary Zimmerman, director of “Lucia di Lammermoor”, where she talks about the set design for this opera.
