Free Desktop Planetarium – Stellarium

September 3, 2007

Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.

This software is amazing. A great way to learn more about stars, planets and their satellites. It can display realistic Milky Way under a very realistic atmosphere with sun setting. The software supports Linux, Mac OS, and Windows. The installation file for Windows is about 35 MB.

Here is the full sky view of the constellations, their boundaries, the Milky Way. (PS: the resolution of this screenshot is degraded by resizing the image)
