Move Your Photos from One Site to Another

July 28, 2007

What if you want to switch from one photo sharing site to anther? How can you preserve the albums, titles, tags, and captions? Here is a free tool that can help you: Migratr. Currently Migratr supports importing and exporting to and from Flickr, 23HQ, Zoomr, SmugMug and Picasa Web Album.

As mentioned in my previous post, the free Flickr account only displays the most recent 200 pictures. With this tool, you can move your photos to another site, say, Picasa Web Album (1GB for free account).

However, it’s better you write metadata in your photos that are stored in your local machine. In this way you won’t lose the precious information of your photos. See “Organizing Photos II” for image metadata tools. Though PixVue is no longer maintained and the web site was gone too, I am still using it. I hope to see a similar tool like PixVue.
